Project Management Based Construction

Plan it, Build it, Love it!

Nothing tops off a back yard retreat like water. The sounds of a waterfall can make you think you have left the city, but without the 2 hour drive. Ponds can be small with just some plants and a couple fish, or elaborate Koi keeping additions to your space. Done right, you can avoid many issues that other companies don’t see coming.

Pond less waterfalls are another great way to add the tranquil sound of water to your space, without the actual body of water. They are simple designs that are easy to maintain and are a great addition to any space.

THINGS TO REMEMBER

·         Ponds are not just a hole in the ground with a pump and a waterfall. Often they are balanced ecosystems controlled by the end user and the systems equipment. Missing pieces to the equation can result in bad water quality, disease, and fish casualty. It’s not hard to have all the pieces; you just need to know what they are. We can help with the puzzle.

·         Construction practices that we have seen in the past can lead to ponds that leak, ponds that clog and are tough to keep running, or ponds that just don’t look good.  We have the knowledge to plan something with you, and then execute that plan to deliver something that functions, and looks beautiful.

   We recommend…

·          That you build it as deep as you are able to, 6 feet is always a good goal to set. Most people build a small pond first, and then decide it should be bigger. Plus the fish will love the depth.

·          BUILD A CONCRETE COLLAR!!!  …sorry but people still think you can get by without this. Most soil is not even going to keep a 15lb stone from eventually sinking into the ground, why would a 200lb stone stay put? A concrete ring will keep things in place, and help with the aesthetics.

·         Provide adequate filtration, a bottom drain and vortex is best if you can let go of a bit more cash during the project. Otherwise very good, oversized biological and mechanical filtration as well as a UV system are recommended.

·         Plan the project so you know what’s going to happen, and set your expectations to match. A good plan will lead to a great result.

·         Please refrain from filling the pond full of rocks. I know it’s hard to fight the feeling that you must do this…   rocks in the pond only trap and collect debris etc… ultimately creating way more maintenance then is needed.

We love building ponds, ask us how we can help you design and plan a great system to fit into your space!
